Do you have a sense that there is a biological component to some of your mental or emotional difficulties? There might be.
Many things besides life’s stressors contribute to poor mental health, such as hormone imbalances, thyroid problems, low blood sugar, etc. In addition, a growing number of alternative mental health practitioners have identified and treat conditions such as pyroluria, under- or over-methylation, copper-zink imbalance, and gluten intolerance, all of which can have a profound effect on mental and behavioral health.
While I am not a doctor and I do not directly cure disease, I have a special interest in neuro-biological aspects of emotional well-being, and I can provide education and support about how your body can affect your state of mind. I also have advanced training in nutrition as therapy, and have some ideas about what can help reduce certain symptoms, such as negativity, perfectionism, “Winter blues”, feeling apathetic or unmotivated, inability to focus or concentrate, feeling stressed or burned out, being unable to relax, or feeling very sensitive.
Here are some resources and links that I find helpful.
Safe Harbor has been providing support and resources regarding alternative mental health for years. They offer help finding a doctor/practitioner, a support group listserve, and over 100 articles. They bill themselves as “the world’s largest site on non-drug approaches for mental health”. See their website here: http://alternativementalhealth.com/
